Product Review: The Honest Kitchen’s ‘Spruce’
Disclosure: We received complimentary samples of The Honest Kitchen’s ‘Spruce’ recipe to taste test in exchange for our honest opinion in this review. As always, we only sample items that fit with our lifestyle and from companies that encourage genuine feedback in reviews.
This new recipe only has SIX human-grade ingredients… dehydrated duck, sweet potatoes, navy beans, flaxseed, egg & parsley. No grains and no GMO ingredients. No preservatives and no chemicals. The only thing beyond the six ingredients that are added are vitamins and supplements.
Spruce is great for sensitive stomachs too! Now IF ONLY I could coerce Murphy into giving it a whirl. Unlike his brother Enzo, he doesn’t like “wet stuff” on his face. #highmaintenancemuch?
Liv & Enzo have more adventurous palates however and as such have enjoyed it immensely. I love being able to spice up their meals with some high quality meat & veggies. Sometimes I add more water than called for and mix it thoroughly with their dry food. Other times I mix it per the instructions to form a nice thick soft food topper. Again, variety is always the goal, but I keep it within reason to keep upset bellies at bay.
The only two drawbacks I have are 1) as mentioned, Murphy is simply disinterested. This is less a reflection on the food however than it is on the pure challenge that is “Murphy”. (He often requires ‘company’ in order to eat… #eyeroll.) And 2) with fluffy pups, the food does tend to get stuck in their beards, requiring a post-meal wipe-down. Not a big deal for us, it happens a lot, but definitely something to be aware of.
