The Crazy Crew: Romeo – Our Ragdoll Siamese

Romeo was the O.C. (Original Crazy) and was my first rescue back in 2005. I had never had a cat before, but knew that my work travel schedule wasn’t conducive to the responsibility of a dog, so a kitty it was! I have a slight cat allergy so I wanted a cat that was going to have less dander than others so a ragdoll or ragdoll blend was preferable. The fact that their personalities are described as more dog than cat-like was admittedly also an appeal at the time. I browsed breeder sites but something in me really wanted to rescue, and since I was (uncharacteristically) willing to wait, I started pouring over the county/humane society sites, waiting for my new kitty to appear. After several weeks of waiting, a 6mo ragdoll blend popped up at the Arizona Humane Society across town and off I went to meet this handsome furball. When they pulled him out of his cage and placed him in my arms, he immediately started purring and head bunting me. Needless to say, he’s had my heart ever since.

About Romeo:

Breed: Ragdoll/Siamese Blend – He has the ultra-soft coat and blue- eyes of the typical ragdoll and the talkative nature of a flame point siamese.

Age: 14yo (2005)

Romeo’s Crazy:

Likes: Cuddles, rattle mice, feathers, salmon juice, Juliet, chin scratches, boxes of any size, running water, birds

Dislikes: Baths, being exclusively an indoor kitty, dogs that chase, slightly used litterboxes

Gifts: LOVES his people, not a mean bone in his body, snuggle kitty

Challenges: Spent the first 2 yrs figuring out why he was regularly urinating outside of the litterbox (on the bed couches, rugs, etc…). Finally figured out he was uber sensitive to outdoor kitties and NEEDED access to the outdoors. We built an outdoor “kitty heaven” and … problem (mostly) solved! As he’s gotten older, he’s taken to they pup’s pads, just because.  In 2018 he was diagnosed with diabetes and we went to GREAT lengths to track, manage, and finally get it in remission.  A strict high quality, low carb diet is the magic formula.

If Romeo could talk:  “Who let all these other furries in here?!?  I was perfectly content when it was just the two of us.”

What do you think? Talk to us!
